Innu essipit, professor and artist

I am Essipiunnu (Innu Essipit), an essayist and researcher whose work explores the relationships between memory, power, and the self-determination of Indigenous peoples. I approach these questions as a living practice where gathering, reflecting, and acting are part of the same movement. My writing draws on Indigenous intellectual traditions to examine colonial legacies and contemporary forms of governance, while imagining pathways toward epistemic freedom and practical alternatives. For me, thinking is also an artistic gesture: it stays in dialogue with the living world, shared knowledge, and collective forms of expression to support creative and transformative practices.
