How do artists want their memory to be preserved and their works to be presented before they enter the public domain?
The Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault called on lawyer Sophie Préfontaine for expert advice. She developed a guide to help dance artists write their last will and testament. Largely inspired by the will of Paul-André Fortier, the guide provides artists with tools and legal information (general information on estate and succession planning, bequests, etc., and specific information on artistic works, copyright and moral rights) to help them decide what actions to take during their lifetime.
The choreographer Paul-André Fortier saw the writing of his will as an open-ended creative project. His reflections allowed him to clearly express his wishes regarding the preservation of his works.
