FLOOD 2021, video num, 8 min 35 s, s.-d.
FLOOD a solo created by choreographer Louise Bédard and performed by dancer Marie Claire Forté. This solo is an integral part of La Démarquise, a group work created in 1996 and revived in 2017.
A word from the choreographer
Inspired by artist Richard Serra’s series of verbs, one day I asked Marie Claire how she would give presence to movement with the verb inonder – to flood. Then an orange chair, tipped over on the floor, appeared in the space.
Alone in a vast bare space, the dancer gradually acclimatizes to a banal orange work chair. Between reality and dream, the slow swaying of her hips turns into a wave that gradually invades the greyness of the space. Supported by Diane Labrosse’s music, the undulations of the body spread and the imprint of her actions try to become embedded in the surface of the floor. Finally, she gets up to confront the tumult of the waves that are discreetly moving away.
