Launch of Sismography

Date
October 11, 2022

Espace Perreault Choreographic Transmissions and Danse K par K are pleased to invite you to the launch of the digital platform Sismography at the Café bar at UQAM’s Département de danse, on Tuesday, November 1.

As Catherine Lavoie-Marcus, creator and project coordinator, writes: “Sismography is a collaborative platform that is home to the stories of dancers. It is a compassionate archive of the subtle tremors and deep shudders that have marked their practice and that often remain taboo: physical and psychological injuries, illness, conditions, and disabilities that can impede, prevent, transform, and divert dance. It also documents the grief that haunts or liberates it.”

Sismography features an audio section to explore the project De la glorieuse fragilité, les balados (glorious fragility: the podcasts) by the company Danse K par K. In these podcasts, choreographer Karine Ledoyen talks to six artists who had to give up dance and celebrate their glorious fragility: Lucie Boissinot, Annie-Claude Coutu-Geoffroy, Judith Lessard-Bérubé, Catherine Martin, Laura Pinsonneault-Craig, and Daniel Soulières. An initiative of the choreographer, this series, coproduced with Catherine-Ève Gadoury, is a celebration of dance, revealed through the grief that inescapably punctuates it.

During the evening, we will be selling the unique publication De la glorieuse fragilité, L’abécédaire, which features 26 testimonials from dancers who have left the professional scene. The publication was produced as part of the show De la glorieuse fragilité. Concept and writing: Katya Montaignac; publisher: Danse K par K.
