Interview with Maria Kolegova about his career and approach to teaching contemporary dance in an international context.

Originally from Russia and introduced at a young age to classical dance, Maria Kolegova is now a contemporary dance performer and teacher in Brussels. During her transition from classical to contemporary dance, she realized the extent of the legacy of the different techniques on dancing bodies. In the En Aparté series produced by Circuit-Est, she explains her philosophy “from the ground up,” where floor work is used to explore basic principles, which are then applied to the complexity of a danced phrasing in space. For the artist, teaching depends more on the encounter than transmission.
