Focus days

Date
January 14, 2026

We are delighted and enthusiastic to hold our focus days at the MAI | Montréal, arts interculturels on April 8 and 9, 2026. Promoting diversity in dance practices, the event will be a chance to reflect on a range of issues, including:

  • How has colonialism shaped the development of the dance community in Quebec?
  • How have dancing bodies absorbed, and continue to carry, colonial thinking?
  • How can we cultivate diverse, but united, decolonial practices?

In the run-up to the event and for the event itself, we will be guided by Indigenous consultants
from Utapi to ensure our focus days are respectful for everyone concerned.
Our website will soon have information about invited artists and researchers, along with
descriptions of talking circles and workshops. Stay tuned!

Heartfelt thanks go to the Canada Council for the Arts, whose Sector Support, Innovation and
Development program is ensuring our focus days live up to our dreams.
