FAIRE CORPS with Françoise Sullivan

Production
Mandala Sitù Danse and Espace Perreault

A pioneer of dance in Quebec, Françoise Sullivan, painter, sculptor, performance artist and member of the Automatistes group, celebrated her 100th birthday on June 10, 2023.

Speaking to Marie-Gabrielle Ménard, she talks about her love of poetry and her interest in the circle, a form she describes as mythical. She recalls her encounter with Paul-Émile Borduas and her formative years in New York in the late ’40s. She revisits her text “La danse et l’espoir”, published in 1948 in the manifesto Refus global, and looks back at some of her landmark choreographies: Dualité, Dédale, Danse dans la neige.
