Synopsis:
In interviews with art historian Gilles Lapointe, the artist recounts in the video her first steps in dance, her explorations in Franziska Boas’ studio in New York in 1947, the influence of Paul-Émile Borduas’ teachings on her creative work, and her participation in the group Les Automatistes.
This rich and inspiring film traces the origins of Sullivan’s major choreographic works, with rare and astonishing archival photographs and video excerpts. A moving, candid encounter with one of dance’s most innovative artists.
