It fosters reflection and develops <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cultural mediation tools based on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dance creation, documentation and transmission processes. It is open to multiple voices and forms of experimentation, and its activities nourish the dance community and audiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>From now on<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Espace Perreault will strive to decolonize dance through its reflections and actions. Recognizing the plural identities making up Quebec society involves revisiting the aesthetics, role and functioning of artistic institutions. We must question the value systems and cultural references we have inherited from colonialism.<\/p>\n<p>Understanding and addressing the sources and impacts of systemic racism involves, first of all, acknowledging its existence, being aware of our own conscious and unconscious biases, repairing the inequalities of the past and present, and, above all, taking open and deliberate action against the racialization of individuals, peoples, their histories and their artistic practices. Starting today.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_animation=&#8221;none&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1637350519875{padding-top: 25px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column][vc_accordion active_tab=&#8221;false&#8221; collapsible=&#8221;yes&#8221; style=&#8221;accordion&#8221;][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Brief History&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault (FJPP) became <strong>Espace Perreault Choreographic transmission<\/strong>\u00a0(EP) in <strong>2021<\/strong>. But before this change of name, it is worth mentioning the main activities of the FJPP that are constitutive of EP&#8217;s current history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From <strong>2011<\/strong> to <strong>2013<\/strong>, the FJPP produced the large web exhibition <strong>Jean-Pierre Perreault, chor\u00e9graphe<\/strong>, bringing together more than 625 documents \u2014interviews, videos, drawings, and posters\u2014 an exemplary work of dance archive preservation. In <strong>2013<\/strong>, it collaborated with the Institut du patrimoine and the Facult\u00e9 des arts at UQAM on three focus days: <strong>Documenter, recr\u00e9er\u2026 M\u00e9moire et transmissions des \u0153uvres performatives et chor\u00e9graphiques contemporaines<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2014<\/strong>, for the FJPP&#8217;s 30th anniversary, the new director and the board announced that the FJPP would promote various choreographic heritages, and not solely Perreault&#8217;s legacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2015<\/strong>, the FJPP organized a focus day: <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/collection\/copyright-use-of-choreographic-works\/\"><strong>Copyright: A space of freedom or constraint for the creation and use of choreographic works<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and launched the guide <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/collection\/artistic-legacy-guide-le-testament-artistique\/\"><strong>Artistic Legacy Guide: Le Testament Artistique<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To foster the creation of knowledge, further days of reflection followed; in <strong>2018<\/strong>, three days brought together artists and researchers from Qu\u00e9bec and abroad to examine the traces and writings of dance; in 2019, a day was devoted to <strong>Authorship in dance: multiple experiences<\/strong>, bringing together practitioners and theorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the exhibition <strong>Corps rebelles<\/strong> \u2014Mus\u00e9e de la civilisation, Qu\u00e9bec (2016) and Mus\u00e9e des confluences, Lyon (2017)\u2014, the FJPP worked on the conception of <strong>Danser Joe<\/strong>, a participatory experience created by Moment Factory based on Perreault&#8217;s Joe. The SMQ awarded it the T\u00e9l\u00e9-Qu\u00e9bec audiovisual and multimedia prize; at the Festival international de l&#8217;audiovisuel et du multim\u00e9dia sur le Patrimoine in Budapest, the initiative received the <strong>Gold award<\/strong> in the <strong>Multim\u00e9dia Art Innovative<\/strong> category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2016<\/strong>, the FJPP launched the portal <strong>EC2_Espaces chor\u00e9graphiques 2<\/strong> in collaboration with several partners, and launched the digital Collection of choreographic boxes documenting works by <strong>Paul-Andr\u00e9 Fortier<\/strong>, <strong>Dani\u00e8le Desnoyers<\/strong>, <strong>Louise B\u00e9dard<\/strong>, <strong>Lucie Gr\u00e9goire<\/strong>, <strong>Pierre-Paul Savoie<\/strong>, and <strong>Jeff Hall<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2019<\/strong>, ahead of the curve on digital issues, it carried out the major project <strong>Dance in Quebec: Boosting the Discoverability of Digital Content<\/strong>, providing the dance community with tools to enhance its discoverability (workshops, guide).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2021<\/strong>, at a celebratory event at the CAM, the FJPP became <strong>Espace Perreault Choreographic transmission<\/strong>\u00a0and launched a beautiful website reflecting its renewed mission, open to diverse dance practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2022<\/strong>, at the Salle Iro Valaskakis-Tembeck, EP presented the film <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/news\/launch-francoise-sullivan-ce-pas-qui-vient-de-soi\/\"><strong>Fran\u00e7oise Sullivan : ce pas qui vient de soi<\/strong><\/a>. This film went on to be presented elsewhere in subsequent years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>2022<\/strong>, EP launched the publication <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/collection\/ancestral-memories-in-dancing-bodies\/\"><strong>Ancestral Memories in Dancing Bodies<\/strong><\/a>, and the collaborative digital platform <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/projects\/sismography\/\"><strong>Sismography \u2013 Recording the injuries, grief, and perils of dance<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <strong>November 2023<\/strong>, EP enthusiastically launched <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/projects\/choreographic-toolkit-joe-2023\/\"><strong>Joe Choreographic toolkit<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at the Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise, and in <strong>fall 2025<\/strong>, at Studio Nyata Nyata, to a full house, EP launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/projects\/mozongi-choreographic-toolkit-2\/\"><strong>Mozongi Traces et m\u00e9moires Choreographic toolkit<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, among other major events, noteworthy is the organization of the days of reflection <a href=\"https:\/\/espaceperreault.ca\/en\/events\/talking-circles-and-workshops-2026\/\"><strong>Dancing Bodies, Memories and Identities: Inventing Decolonial Practices<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on <strong>April 9 and 10, 2026<\/strong> at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/m-a-i.qc.ca\/\">MAI | Montr\u00e9al, arts interculturels<\/a><\/strong>. This landmark event was an immense success. Particularly inspiring, it drew more than a hundred participants who took part in exchanges with the approximately twenty invited guests. The launch of a publication deepening the reflections from the two days is planned for <strong>fall 2028<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The active role EP plays in the dance ecosystem is unique and an inspiration to the entire community.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Board of Directors&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong>Ang\u00e9lique Willkie<br \/>\n<\/strong>Vice-chair<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Performer, singer, pedagogue and dramaturge, Ang\u00e9lique Willkie completed a Masters degree in Economics at McGill University before starting her dance training at the School of Toronto Dance Theater. Her career evolved in Europe over the following 25 years where she worked with, among others, Alain Platel, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Jan Lauwers \/ Needcompany, and as a singer with the Belgian world-music group, Zap Mama. Working as a dramaturge for dance and circus, Ang\u00e9lique is also Assistant Professor in the Department of Contemporary Dance at Montreal\u2019s Concordia University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jos\u00e9e Plamondon<br \/>\n<\/strong>Secretary<\/p>\n<p>Master of Library and Information Science, MBA.<\/p>\n<p>Trained as a librarian to be a data and information retrieval systems specialist, Jos\u00e9e was confronted with organizational and technological issues related to the dissemination of information in diverse areas including cultural industries. She has contributed to projects aiming at interoperability and data sharing, content indexing for machine processing and knowledge sharing. Now a consultant, she offers content creators and producers who are facing digital challenges to understand the dynamics of information and learn how to exploit the data that describes their content. Since 2016, she co-organizes an annual semantic web meeting in Quebec in the form of a conference.<\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9e recently worked with the Canada Council for the Arts, the Quartier des spectacles Partnership, Canadian Heritage Information Network and SODEC. She sits on the Quebec government\u2019s digital council.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9lisabeth-Anne Dorl\u00e9ans<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of UQAM&#8217;s Bachelor of Dance program, followed by a Master&#8217;s degree from the same department, \u00c9lisabeth-Anne is a Montreal-based dance artist. Passionate about dance, she uses her diverse practice to contribute to the development and recognition of dance in all its forms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nabila Ghernati<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p>Professional with over 15 years of experience in fields related to immigration, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Nabila advises and guides managers in implementing inclusive strategies and practices in their organizations to allow people from underrepresented groups to be recruited and access jobs and governance bodies. She has supported some 100 non-profit organizations in an inclusive governance program, enabling them to acquire tools and good practices so their organizations and boards of directors can be more representative of Montr\u00e9al\u2019s diversity and its talent. In previous positions, Nabila led workshops on managing cultural diversity in employment in Montr\u00e9al businesses and coordinated a round table for employability organizations for three years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claire MacKinnon<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Claire is a Canadian Screen Award-winning Producer with over 20 years of experience in the Film, Television and Publishing fields. Claire has overseen business and legal affairs on multiple dramatic and documentary television series as well as feature documentary films, including the multi-award winning dramatic series <\/span><i>Little Bird<\/i> (CRAVE, APTN, PBS, ARTE), <i>Mohawk Girls<\/i> (APTN, CBC, Peacock) and the feature documentary film <i>RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World<\/i> (TMN, APTN, SRC, CBC, PBS), as well as many other titles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sophie Michaud<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p>Sophie Michaud began her career in dance at the beginning of the 1980s. For over 30 years, through university studies (B.F.A and M.F.A. in dance, doctoral studies in artistic studies and practices) and a sustained practice, she has specialized in supporting choreographic projects. Rehearsal director and artistic and dramaturgical advisor, she works with many choreographers at different stages of creating their pieces, placing particular importance on the intricacy of artistic and interpersonal challenges and how they manifest themselves in studio. Informed by extensive experience of the creative process, Sophie M. also acts as a consultant, editor, trainer, and artistic mediator. Pursuing her own research, she is interested in the history of dance, ethics, and sociology of professions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isabelle Poirier<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p>Isabelle was a performer with Compagnie Marie Chouinard for eight years and then rehearsal director. She continues to work freelance as a rehearsal director, remounting the company&#8217;s works for various companies and schools. In 2015-2016, she performed the solos <em>Cartes postales de Chim\u00e8re<\/em> by Louise B\u00e9dard and <em>Les Choses derni\u00e8res<\/em> by Lucie Gr\u00e9goire, and helped write the Choreographic Toolkits of these same works for Espace Perreault (formerly Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault). A graduate of LADMMI with a major in art history, she now teaches dance at Concordia and is artistic advisor to EDCM, Rhodnie D\u00e9sir, Ivanie Aubin-Malo and Natasha Kanap\u00e9 Fontaine. She dances for Ariane Boulet and Lucie Gr\u00e9goire, and is co-director of teaching at Corpuscule Danse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chlo\u00e9 Saintesprit<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p>Chlo\u00e9 (they \/ zie \/ zim) is a professional who has been working in the arts and culture sector in Quebec for nine years. A former dance performer, they holds a degree in dance from UQAM, a DESS in management from HEC Montr\u00e9al and a certificate in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) from Cambridge University. As an EDI consultant and speaker, Chlo\u00e9 works to improve the representation of diversity and inclusion processes within organizations in various sectors, particularly in decision-making spheres. As part of this same vision, Chlo\u00e9 is an ambassador for CMTL&#8217;s Groupe des Trente, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Centrale des Artistes in Laval, and is involved in numerous projects such as editorials and panels, in collaboration with various players across Canada.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne Th\u00e9riault<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As creator and performer, Anne Th\u00e9riault has been weaving collaborations with artists from multiple backgrounds for fifteen years. She is a founding member of Lorganisme, a structure that reinforces the activity of choreographers, bringing them together and encouraging them to deepen their respective artistic approaches through sharing creative, human, and material resources. She has also been an associate artist at Usine C since 2018 and is invited as a \u00ab artiste-chercheure \u00bb by L\u2019L- an experimental research structure for the living arts in Brussels, until 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingrid Vallus<br \/>\n<\/strong>Board member<\/p>\n<p>Ingrid Vallus studied cinema and holds a bachelor&#8217;s degree in dance from the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al. A cultural worker for over 20 years, she has developed experience in production, communications, dissemination, cultural project and event management, as well as cultural mediation. Since 2016, she has accompanied numerous artists, mainly in writing projects and grant applications.
