Julie Burelle

Researcher and dramaturgical consultant

Julie Burelle is a dramaturgical advisor and professor at the University of California, San Diego. Her research examines theater, dance, and performance as meeting places where other ways of being together are imagined and set in motion. In 2019, she published Encounters on Contested Lands: Indigenous Performances of Sovereignty and Nationhood in Quebec. In 2021, she co-directed Xajoj Tun, Le Rabinal Achi d’Ondinnok with Yves Sioui-Durand, Catherine Joncas, and Jean-François Côté. Reflections, interviews, analyses, and in 2023, she co-directed with Jill Carter the thematic issue of the magazine Percées, “First Peoples’ Theater and Performance: Protocols of Engagement.”
