Alida Esmail

Choreographer, performer, teacher, audio describer, researcher

Alida Esmail is a Canadian dance and theatre artist of Indo-African heritage. Her practice encompasses performance, choreography, teaching, health research and audio description. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (contemporary dance, psychology) from Concordia University and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Sciences from the Université de Montréal. Her training also includes Bharatanatyam, Kalarippayattu, partnering and Pilates. Her work explores socially engaged practices and the place of art and the artist in society, in dialogue with identity, ancestry and community.
