2027 Fundraising Campaign

Visuel de la campagne de financement de 2027 pour trois publications

Three books for nourishing the dance community!

With our hearts full of joy and hope, Espace Perreault invites the dance community and its audiences to take part in its new fundraising campaign in support of three unique and inspiring publications.

Using relational, sensory, botanical forms or forms that defy categorization, these projects are multifaceted conversations with the living world, touching on what is most intimate and distinctive about dance.

Thanks to your donations, Espace Perreault will lift up new voices and help nourish a dance community that is hungry for the words and thoughts of local artists.

The three projects

Marie Claire Forté et Peter Boneham

Today and Today and Today, by Marie Claire Forté with Peter Boneham and guests

Part articulation of movement principles, part pretext to spend time with one of my favourite avant-garde artists, part experiment on writing about a dance teaching practice, and part conversation on life, this project aims to capture something of Peter Boneham’s sixty-year œuvre as a dance teacher, and our relationship through and beyond dance.

MCF How do you inspire people’s thirst, including your own?

PB    The few questions I ask: Why are you here? What do you want to take from this experience? Is there something you want to leave behind? And I remind us: there is no work. This defends the idea that an artist isn’t doing work. We are doing what we are doing because we are compelled to, it answers a need in us… It’s also getting a vibe from people.

Carnet de traces, zine by Sara Hanley

I would like to share a score with four artists – who will each cover one season – so that after our encounters we can create notebooks that trace our explorations and experiences of being present with the living world. These experimental, cobbled-together notebooks will be situated between archive and transmission tool, honouring relationships with the plant world and a sensitive ecology of the gesture.

A few years ago, I started a year-long research project during which I tracked milkweed, a plant indigenous to Quebec. I let myself be guided by tracing its presence in the world around me. I made it my mentor. What happens when a plant becomes my education?

Mouvement de passage ©Andréa de Keijzer

Mouvement de passage, Le Radeau

Through dance, music, and a fully attuned presence, every encounter between a dancer and a resident of a long-term care facility becomes an ephemeral work of art. Featuring photographs, artists’ accounts, residents’ words, and interviews with care staff, the publication will present the world of Mouvement de passage. Let’s put our heads and our hearts together for a dance, a song, or a small gesture, both subtle and grand.

Excerpt

One day, as I was dancing in the hallway, I glimpsed a woman in her room, sitting by the window. Her head was resting on her arm, and she was lost in thought, staring into the distance. I stepped into the room and placed my hand on hers, and it suddenly felt as though we had been transported to the same place, into her world. We moved our hands together. They rose and danced like curls of smoke. When we were done, the woman said to me, ‘Thank you, I was feeling so lonely.’

—Isabelle Poirier, dancer

Discover why Espace Perreault is essential to the cultural ecosystem

“For me, Espace Perreault is a space to reflect and share in-depth knowledge. Over time, I’ve seen dance memories proliferate and create the fertile territories we need to develop a contemporary vision of dance. In Espace Perrault I find a place to voice my thoughts and listen to the voices of smart, sensitive creators who enlighten, move, unsettle and teach me, and in so doing, carry me forward.”

—Sophie Michaud, artistic consultant and rehearsal director

“In creating a choreographic toolkit for my work Les Choses dernières, the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault recognized its importance within Quebec’s contemporary dance heritage. This mark of recognition was a determining event in the development of my company. I am extremely grateful for it.”

—Lucie Grégoire, Montreal choreographer and dancer
